The role

We are looking for a solicitor to join the Real Estate National Service Line (“NSL”). Based in Birmingham, working under supervision, you will assist partners and other lawyers, undertaking a wide range of commercial property work.

Areas of work include:

  • Land acquisitions and disposals including options and conditional contracts
  • Acting for landlords and tenants in connection with the grant of business leases
  • General property management work to include dealing with:

o   asset management licences

o   rent reviews

o   lease renewals

  • Property finance
  • Corporate support

Our key sectors include health and care, education, life sciences and government.

Client base

Our client base includes universities, NHS Trusts, government departments and arms-length bodies, developers, corporate occupiers with multi-site holdings as well as other charities, family trusts and private office funds. The nature of our work and our clients encourages the development of long lasting and fulfilling relationships with both clients and their agents and other advisors. 

The person

You will be newly qualified to 2 years’ PQE or equivalent experience in real estate work (commercial property), gained in a quality regional or City law firm.

  • Effective time and matter management and a systematic approach to work

  • Flexibility to work with several team members and colleagues from other teams and offices

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Who will I be working with?

You will work with partners Michael Whatley and Christian Bull and their teams based in Birmingham. The team is part of the firm-wide Real Estate National Service Line, which is headed up by Vincenzo Maggio, and supported by professional support lawyers. You will also work with other partners in the Real Estate NSL on specific projects or as part of a wider client service team.

This post is also subject to a satisfactory response from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) (to check for any previous criminal convictions and cautions) and, given the nature of the work-type, you may also be required to undergo national security vetting to SC level – the latter can be undertaken following commencement of employment.
