Commercial x 3 – Any office (not London)

Our busy and diverse commercial team is growing rapidly.  We would love three NQs to join us!  We work as a single national team and are growing in all our offices so there are opportunities wherever you want to be located (other than London, at this point).  Joining the commercial team will give you the chance to work in a wide range of areas and build a career that fits your skills and preferences.  You will immediately get involved in drafting and negotiating contracts and directly advising clients.  You will develop transferable skills – secondment opportunities will help you hone your commercial judgement and get a taste of life in-house.   You will work with national experts who want to help you develop your own market-leading knowledge.

Initially, you will have the chance to work across all areas of the commercial team, including commercial contracts, major projects, intellectual property, IT, data protection, public procurement and competition.  You will also be able to get involved in business development in some of M&R’s key sectors, including Technology, Life Sciences, Government, Education, Health, Automotive and Food & Agriculture.  As you develop, it is likely that you will focus on the areas that best suit you.

You will find the commercial team a supportive and friendly place to work.  From local office buddy groups and team socials to national team training and away days, we want you to enjoy being part of the team.

Corporate x 5 - Any office

Please join our busy and growing corporate team.  We have 5 vacancies across various locations.  You will undertake a broad mix of high-paced and interesting corporate work: mergers and acquisitions, disposals, corporate finance, joint ventures, private equity, fundraising including IPO and other equity capital markets work, shareholder agreements and general corporate advisory work.

You will advise and get close contact with clients ranging from early-stage start-ups through to substantial private companies and PLCs, nationally and internationally, on a range of dynamic corporate issues and transactions.  The team is ranked in the Top 10 in the UK for the number of M&A deals advised in the past year.  The work we do spans all of the firm’s sectors and offices and is often in the headlines.  A key feature is the amount of client contact you will have – as well as working as a part of a deal team with specialists from across the firm.

There will be lots of scope to be involved with networking and business development and ideally this will be something you enjoy.

Banking – Cambridge

We are looking for one NQ to join our Banking team, which deals with a complex and highly demanding quantity of high quality work including advising banks and other corporate/institutional clients (both borrowers and lenders) on all aspects of banking law, funding and security issues.  The team is also involved in support work for other teams across the country, including (but not limited to) the corporate, commercial and real estate teams on funding issues in M&A work, portfolio property re-finances and more.  Finally, there will be an element of work required in these roles to support other practice areas dealing with finance-related work.

Our client base consists of the main clearing banks including RBS, HSBC and Barclays, debt funds such as AgFe and asset based lenders, together with other corporate and institutional clients i.e. higher and further education institutions, charities, NHS Trusts as borrowers, alternative credit providers and new entrants to the lending market.

Transactional construction – Birmingham, Cambridge, Manchester, Norwich or Oxford

We are looking for a NQ to join the transactional construction team.  We operate nationally so you will work with colleagues across all of the offices with a construction team.

The work is incredibly varied and fast-paced.  Clients include government departments, universities, investors, developers, finders, contractors and consultants and across all of the firms key sectors.  One day you can be helping a university on its new campus, the next helping to ease the housing crisis across the country.  There is great opportunity for involvement in BD as well as excellent support, mentoring and training.

Construction disputes – Birmingham or Cambridge

An opportunity to join one of the leading teams of construction disputes lawyers in the country.  Work involves all types of dispute resolution – including adjudication, ADR, arbitration and litigation – for a client base from across the industry and involving all of the firm’s key sectors.

You will also be involved in strategic thinking as to how best resolve a dispute as well as developing your advocacy and drafting skills.  There is also plenty of excellent training and support, lots of BD opportunities and the chance to work with colleagues across all of our offices with a construction team.

Corporate (Education/Charities) - Cambridge or Leeds

We have an exciting opportunity for a Corporate Solicitor to work for the leading education and charity practice in the UK. You will be working on high profile national and international projects for universities and many household name charities. The work is wide ranging and will be a combination of corporate and commercial work, together with some charity, regulatory and governance work. You will advise on mergers, collaborations, group structuring, as well as partnerships, other contracts and general corporate work. The client base is national and you will work with colleagues across the NSL and the education sector.

You may also be required to support the wider NSL where necessary from time to time and we find this is a valuable way to gain a more rounded understanding of corporate and transactional work and clients.  There will be lots of scope to be involved with marketing and business development and ideally this will be something you enjoy.

Corporate Tax – Norwich, Cambridge or Birmingham

The Corporate Tax team is expanding and as a result is looking for an ambitious new NQ. Based in Norwich, Cambridge or Birmingham, your focus will be on delivering real estate tax, corporate tax and employment tax advice to our clients and colleagues. The precise mix of work is flexible and we like our team members to be able to work across all the areas we service and train them accordingly.

We pride ourselves in providing the highest quality legal advice and solutions to a very diverse range of interesting and exciting clients – corporates (ranging from quoted companies to start-ups), charities, partnerships, public sector bodies, owner managers, international clients, funds and universities / colleges.  We value our tax specialists and the often-decisive contribution they make to the firm’s transactions and projects.

The team has a varied and high-quality workload, advising on the full range of property and corporate taxes, employment tax, employee share schemes and VAT. We carry out bespoke advisory work and transaction support work across the firm’s sectors such as real estate investment, technology, sport, education, health and charities.  We also work closely with the private client practice.
