The role

We are looking for an experienced solicitor to join the Real Estate National Service Line (NSL) based in our Birmingham office.

You will provide a wide range of general and specialised non-contentious commercial property advice. The work will involve a mixture of sole conduct of matters and assisting partners on larger property (or property related) transactions.  Our clients are many and varied ranging across the private and public sectors.  Work types cover the full spectrum of property transactions you would expect to find at a firm where real estate work is a key driver in its continuing success.  The nature of the work and the clients concerned encourages the development of long lasting and fulfilling relationships with both clients and their agents.

The Birmingham Real Estate team has particular strengths in, and a focus on, giving the full range of commercial property advice to universities, further education colleges, healthcare providers and corporate occupiers.  The team also works closely with our Corporate and Commercial NSL and provides real estate support and advice to that NSL on corporate and banking transactions.  The role will involve working across these work types.

You will work with lawyers in construction, planning, real estate disputes, tax, corporate, environmental and procurement as well as lawyers in the cross office Real Estate NSL.

The caseload will be stimulating, varied and challenging, and you will be given a diverse mixture of work with direct contact to clients and agents from the start, whilst benefiting from close supervision from members of the team.

The team

The Real Estate practice at Mills & Reeve is one of the leading teams in the UK. Nationally we number over 100 lawyers and regularly advise some of the UK’s leading and most prestigious organisations and institutions on the most complex of projects.

You will be working with Birmingham partners, Christian Bull and Michael Whatley, together with other Real Estate NSL lawyers.  The Real Estate NSL is headed up by Richard Hanson.

Experience required

You will be a minimum of 3 years PQE (or equivalent experience) with experience gained with a City or large regional law firm, recognised for real estate work.

What else should I know?

This is an ideal opportunity to build your skills and experience with a major UK law firm, listed as one of the “Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For” for the last 19 years - the only law firm to achieve this. This year we were named as Roll on Friday’s Firm of the Year. We have also achieved the much sought after Three Star Accreditation and been named as one of 100 Best Mid-Sized Companies to Work For as a result of outstanding levels of staff engagement and the firm’s commitment to creating a positive working environment for all employees.

This post is also subject to a satisfactory response from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) (to check for any previous criminal convictions) and, given the nature of the work-type, you may also be required to undergo national security vetting to SC level – the latter can be undertaken following commencement of employment.
