The role

We are looking for an experienced solicitor to join the Real Estate team based in our Birmingham office.

You will provide a wide range of general and specialised non-contentious commercial property advice. The work will involve a mixture of sole conduct of matters and assisting partners on larger property (or property related) transactions.  Our clients are many and varied ranging across the private and public sectors.

Work types cover the full spectrum of property transactions you would expect to find at a firm where real estate work is a key driver in its continuing success.  The nature of the work and the clients concerned encourages the development of long lasting and fulfilling relationships with both clients and their agents.

The Birmingham Real Estate team has particular strengths in, and a focus on, giving the full range of commercial property advice to universities, further education colleges, healthcare providers and corporate occupiers.  The team also works closely with our Corporate and Commercial NSL and provides real estate support and advice to that NSL on corporate and banking transactions.  The role will involve working across these work types.

You will work with lawyers in construction, planning, real estate disputes, tax, corporate, environmental and procurement as well as lawyers in the cross office Real Estate NSL

The team

The Real Estate practice at Mills & Reeve is one of the leading teams in the UK. Nationally we number over 100 lawyers and regularly advise some of the UK’s leading and most prestigious organisations and institutions on the most complex of projects.

You will be working with Birmingham partners, Christian Bull and Michael Whatley, together with other Real Estate NSL lawyers.  The Real Estate NSL is headed up by Richard Hanson.

Experience required

You will be a minimum of 5 years PQE (or equivalent experience) with experience gained with a City or large regional law firm, recognised for real estate work.

Essential

You will have:

  • good academics (2.1 degree or equivalent and good A levels or equivalent)
  • excellent written English and ability to produce clear, logical drafting.
  • good numeracy skills
  • negotiating skills
  • lateral thinking and problem solving skills
  • good attention to detail
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • enthusiasm towards building and strengthening relationships with clients and their advisors.
  • the ability to be a food team player working with several team members from both inside and outside the Real Estate NSL.
  • effective time and matter management skills and a systematic approach to work, together with drive and commitment to see a job through.
  • good marketing technique with clients and multipliers is key too.

Desirable

Experience of participating in team projects; and experience of advising clients in the health or education sectors on property matters would be desirable.
