The Role

We are looking to welcome an experienced real estate lawyer to our busy Real Estate Projects team.  You will primarily assist other members of the projects team on a broad range of real estate work, from investment to development, with a particular emphasis on development and infrastructure projects involving both private and public sectors.  You will also work closely with our real estate, banking and finance teams on investment and development transactions, with a particular focus on the following sectors: government, higher education and charities.

Our team is regularly involved in high-value and high-profile projects across England often for government or institutional clients.  The vast majority of our clients instruct us on a repeat basis, so building up good working relationships with clients and their other professional advisers is a key requirement.

Our projects often involve other legal disciplines such as procurement, finance, construction and commercial contracts which means that, if you have a background in these areas, there would be scope to keep up and develop your skills, if that appeals to you.

The role will include:

  • managing your own case-load of matters you will be leading on
  • working as a member of a wider-team on cross-disciplinary projects
  • supervising and mentoring junior members of the team
  • actively participating in business development initiatives, including preparation of tenders, attending pitches and hospitality

Experience required

You will have a minimum of 5+ years' PQE with relevant real estate experience particularly in investment and development work gained in a large national, regional or City law firm.

You will be able to demonstrate:

  • Good team-working skills
  • A track record of supervising and developing junior colleagues
  • Good drafting skills with an ability to give clear, simple, risk-based advice
  • Good academics and demonstrate enthusiasm for this work.

The Team

The Real Estate Projects team is led by Andrew Wood, a partner based in our Cambridge office.  The team currently has members based in our Cambridge and Norwich offices.  We can, however, be flexible on location as the team regularly works as part of cross-office teams and with clients based in different parts of the country.

Pre-employment screening

Please note that, in the event that we make an offer of employment, we will conduct pre-employment screening that includes checks relating to your professional and academic qualifications, references from previous employers, your eligibility to work in the UK and any disciplinary history recorded with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). You will also be required to complete a self-declaration to access your character and suitability.

Disclosure and barring service check

This post is also subject to a satisfactory response from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
