The role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a 3 – 6 years PQE Solicitor to join our defendant professional indemnity team on a permanent basis. You will work within our Insurance Disputes National Service Line (NSL) based in our Birmingham office, which is the Top Tier firm in the legal directories in the region for this work.

The role is to support 4 partners dealing with a wide range of professional indemnity work including claims against Accountants, Barristers, Brokers, Construction professionals, IFAs, Loss Adjusters, and Solicitors.  The team also advises Insurers on policy coverage issues. Clients are located nationally, with work referred at their nomination or directly by insurers, most of which are located close to our London office but with developed regionally based teams.

The role will require experience in dealing with professional indemnity claims as well as up to date pre-action and litigation procedure knowledge. Ideally, you will have gained your experience in private practice at a large regional or City law firm.  

The team

This is an opportunity to join the leading and prestigious professional indemnity team in the West Midlands, ranked as No1 in the legal directories. You will be working in a team of over 20 lawyers, including four Partners (David Gooding, Angus Turner, Neil Frankland and James Thompson) and six Principal Associates.

The team is part of the firm-wide Insurance Disputes NSL, which is headed up by Niall Innes, and supported by a professional support lawyer. You will also work with other partners in the Insurance Disputes NSL on specific projects or as part of a wider client service team.

The person

Given the responsibilities in of this role, it’s likely that your background and experience will:

  • Degree educated (2:1), or equivalent.
  • Litigation experience and strong analytical skills..
  • Lateral thinking and problem solving skills.
  • A self-starter who takes the initiative.
  • Flexibility to work with and supervise team members.
  • Good research skills, including an ability to use online information sources.

The role also requires someone who:

  • is self-managed and confident in setting and prioritising their own work agenda.
  • has excellent written as well as verbal communication skills and so is able to demonstrate that they can convey complex matters in a way that different audiences can understand.
  • is confident and able to build sustainable relationships with clients, lawyers and internal colleagues is organised and methodical in how they approach their work.
  • has excellent attention to detail.
  • is a team player.
  • is willing to take on new responsibilities and challenges
