Casualty Injury Team, Birmingham, Permanent

The role

We are looking for a Chartered Legal Executive with a minimum of four years post-qualification experience (or equivalent experience) to join our Insurance Disputes National Service Line (NSL) based in our Birmingham office.  You will be responsible for running your own case load of EL and PL claims including those valued well into the Multi Track. Some experience of healthcare and construction-related injury litigation would be an advantage for the successful candidate.  You will also be undertaking work on catastrophic injury claims largely arising from industrial accidents, assisting the senior team members on those cases.

You will act for direct corporate clients, insurers of commercial entities and other intermediaries acting as third party administrators to Underwriters of commercial and combined risks.

You will also be prepared/willing to assist in team marketing events and delivering client seminars.

The person

You will have relevant experience dealing with personal injury claims and litigation. You will be able to ‘hit the ground running’, and will have managed your own caseload independently, guiding and directing the resource of others to achieve the agreed strategy and interim objectives in a given piece of litigation. Ideally you will also have experience assisting Partner level fee earners of your team on larger cases.

Given the responsibilities in the role, it’s likely that your background and experience will include:

  • Extensive Litigation experience
  • Excellent written English for drafting purposes
  • Familiar with Insurer client SLAs, reporting formats and preparation of management information.
  • Advocacy skills
  • Self-starting with common sense and initiative
  • Good time and file management skills
  • Ability to build good working relationships with clients and potential clients
  • Good research skills, including an ability to use online information sources
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills, including ability to work with others, influence and persuade

  • Project management skills
