The role

The Risk Analyst is an integral part of the Risk & Compliance team, advising on and having a direct operational role on a whole range of risk related issues. You will report on a day-to-day basis to the Director of Risk Management.  You will also have a close relationship with the Head of Best Practice and other members of the Risk & Compliance team, as well as the Head of Client Acceptance.

To be successful in this role, you will have a background in Risk & Compliance, however, full training is available where needed on any of the below activities.

The activities

SRA Handbook compliance

Researching, advising and having operational day to day involvement on a whole range of Code of Conduct/Handbook issues, including in particular:

  • Conflicts of interest;

  • data protection and information security; and

  • SRA Authorisation issues for the firm and its lawyers.

ISO Accreditations and management reporting

  • Helping the firm maintain its various ISO accreditations by preparation for and if necessary attendance at inspection visits.

  • Project Managing and assisting with the operation of the Riliance Risk Management software;

  • Supporting the Best Practice Partner and the R&C team in relation to the recording and reporting of breaches of the Codes..

  • Assisting in the investigation of incidents generally;

  • Assisting in the preparation of the Annual Management Review.

Business Continuity

  • Being responsible for maintaining the team’s Business Continuity Plan.

Financial Crime

  • Assisting the MLRO, their deputy and the DORM in relation to internal and external suspicious activity reports under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

  • General liaison in relation to AML approvals, working with the Central Inception Team, R&C and senior management.

  • Dealing with financial crime risk assessments.

Risk Training

  • Assisting the R&C team in relation to training lawyers and support staff on risk issues, particularly trainee solicitors and recently qualified lawyers.

The person

Given the responsibilities of this role, it’s likely that your background and experience will include:

  • Degree educated or equivalent

  • A background in Risk & Compliance

  • Excellent communication skills across all levels

  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Experience of writing manuals/how to guides

The role also requires someone who:

  • is self-managed and confident in setting and prioritising their own work agenda.

  • has excellent written as well as verbal communication skills and so is able to demonstrate that they can convey complex matters in a way that different audiences can understand.
