ETWD – Birmingham

We are looking for an NQ to join RPCD in Birmingham, to focus on Estate, Trust and Will Disputes (ETWD).

The candidate will be based in Birmingham but will assist with delivering an ETWD service nationally across all of our offices.  You will deal with a wide range of contentious issues relating to wills and trusts including, for example, invalidity of wills on grounds of undue influence, improper execution, lack of testamentary capacity and want of knowledge and approval, removal of executors and trustees, and Court of Protection claims.  The role will involve acting for a wide range of clients, including but not limited to private individuals, trust companies, educational establishments, professional indemnity insurers, charities, business owners and high net worth individuals.

There will be the opportunity to become involved in business development activities and also potential secondments with certain clients, such as insurers.

Regulatory/Healthcare – Cambridge 

We are looking for a solicitor to work as part of our award-winning healthcare team alongside Jill Mason, Neil Ward, Duncan Astill and Amanda Narkiewicz. You will be responsible for dealing with a wide range of regulatory and public law work (these can be life and death matters and/or headline news either locally or nationally).

The broad range of work will include complex issues covering a range of work, including:

  • Mental Capacity Act 2005, Best Interests and Court of Protection welfare cases
  • Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
  • Mental Health Act
  • Applications under inherent jurisdiction of High Court
  • NHS Continuing Care/Responsible Commissioner issues
  • Priorities/exceptional funding
  • Public law matters including judicial review challenges
  • Health and Social Care Regulation
  • Health and Safety and other regulatory work (cross sector)
  • Governance
  • Incident investigation 

Although you would not be expected to be covering all these areas! The work will require some travel to service client needs nationally.

The Healthcare team forms part of the larger Regulatory, Public & Commercial Disputes national service line. The team currently consists of three partners, nine principal associates and seven senior associates / associates. This team provides healthcare law advice to a range of public and independent sector health clients.

Commercial Disputes / Sport / ETWD – Manchester

We are looking for a NQ to join the Commercial Disputes team to be based in Manchester, albeit as with all roles there will be wider support across each office. Within Manchester there is a broad range of work undertaken from general commercial dispute work which includes Restructuring and Insolvency, and Reputation Management together with ETWD.

There are a broad range of sectors covered including Food and Agri, Sport, Mid Market /Automotive, government and Life Sciences. 

You will be advising national and international clients to manage risk and resolve a broad range of disputes inside and outside formal legal processes including   contract related disputes for a range of corporate and institutional clients. 

The roles will be to support the full range of work undertaken by the teams and you can expect to work across offices with other lawyers in the NSL.  We are looking for lawyers who are flexible in their outlook and have an appetite to work on a broad range of different disputes and with different types of clients.

Sport work covers regulatory matters such as contractual disputes, doping, match fixing and governance issues at the Court of Arbitration for Sport and other arbitrational institutions, and acting for athletes, sports federations and clubs). 

Reputation management work includes black letter defamation, privacy and related work for a variety of individuals and institutions and wider reputation work for major corporates and institutions around significant issues and interaction with TV and Newspaper journalists. 

Estates Trust and Wills disputes embraces a spectrum of disputes covered by the team for individuals, trust corporations and charities. 

Hybrid Covid Inquiry/Healthcare – Birmingham, Cambridge or Manchester

We are looking for a solicitor to work as part of our award-winning healthcare team alongside Jill Mason, Neil Ward, Amanda Narkiewicz and Duncan Astill, Partners.

The role will initially focus on being part of the team working on the UK Covid -19 Public Inquiry supporting our client (UK Health Security Agency, one of the key Core Participants) as it prepares for the start of the hearings – the work will include a wide variety of tasks including drafting statements, reviewing documents, attending client meetings and attending the hearings when they commence (both virtually and in London).

Depending on the extent of the work required for the Inquiry you will also assist on a wide range of patient matters and public law work (these are often life and death matters and/or headline news either locally or nationally). The intention would then be when the Inquiry work reduces for you to focus full time on the healthcare role.

Split role – ETWD/Private Client – Eastern Region

We are looking for an NQ Associate to work across both the private client and ETWD teams, with your time split roughly equally between the two.

ETWD is currently a part of the RPCD NSL and as such your role will span both the RPCD and PC NSLs.  This gives you the unique opportunity to experience both the contentious and non-contentious aspects of private client work.

Your private client work will be varied and of high quality including all aspects of personal tax; wills; lasting powers of attorney; the formation, administration and restructuring of trusts, family investment companies and other onshore and offshore structures for UK tax planning; family and asset protection; succession planning in family businesses; and estate administration.

Commercial Disputes x 3 – Birmingham, Cambridge, Norwich

We are looking for three NQs to join the Commercial Disputes team, as part of the RPCD NSL, to be based in each of the Birmingham, Cambridge and Norwich offices, whilst also providing support to the wider national team in London.  These positions are in addition to the Manchester based NQ position for “Commercial Disputes / Sport / ETWD”. 

You will be advising national and international clients to manage risk and resolve a broad range of disputes inside and outside formal legal processes.  Primarily you will be working on contract related disputes for a range of corporate and institutional clients, covering litigation at all levels of the court system, international arbitration, the Intellectual Property Office and specialist sport related arbitrations as well as some Insolvency work (involving the Insolvency Service and the Official Receiver).  The sport work within the NSL covers regulatory matters such as contractual disputes, doping, match fixing and governance issues at the Court of Arbitration for Sport and other arbitrational institutions, and acting for athletes, sports federations and clubs.
