The Role

We are seeking a Paralegal to assist in the task of identifying whether we need to be contacting clients (both existing and from the past) about the whereabouts of their property deeds, following an audit of our deeds records.

You will be responsible for undertaking a series of database and internet searches, using both Mills & Reeve’s own data records and the Land Registry portal, as well as seeking out information about client properties by researching information available from open sources on the internet.  You will keep a full record of the searches made and the information identified from these.  This will assist in the assessment of the need for communication with clients about the whereabouts of their deeds.

You will be trained in the processes to follow, the standard searches to be made and the records to be kept.  You will need to be self-motivated, manage your own time and show initiative in the extent and nature of the internet searches that you make.  You will also need to be patient, but curious and enquiring as there may be multiple strands of enquiry and potential dead-ends.

Working hours can be flexible by agreement so long as an agreed programme for completing the tasks is achieved.  The role can be performed on hybrid working arrangements.

The person

  • You have experience of using the firm’s client records and e-search data bases
  • You are ready to learn and show aptitude in using the Land Registry portal, following personalised 1:1 training provided by colleagues
  • You are skilled in the use of Excel
  • You are confident in the use internet search engines to research property details and related information
  • You are a confident communicator
  • You are highly organised, and self-motivated, independently to plan and execute your workload
  • You are methodical and can follow a process consistently and keep a record of this
  • You show initiative and lateral thinking, and have an enquiring mind
  • You are able to meet deadlines

Disclosure and barring service check and security clearance

This post is also subject to a satisfactory response from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) (to check for any previous criminal convictions and cautions) and, given the nature of the work-type, you may also be required to undergo national security vetting to SC level – the latter can be undertaken following commencement of employment.
